Main issues: Reverse widespread academic failure of Birmingham schools not preparing students for college and workplace. She said only 5 percent of the city’s 11th-graders meet college readiness benchmarks in math, and the average ACT score for city students is 15.5, while average for Auburn University freshmen is 26. Expand pre-K program for 4-year-olds. Establish benchmarks at each grade level and increase training and resources.
