The Alabama Department of Public Health reported 1,841 confirmed cases of COVID-19 late Sunday, with 231 people hospitalized.

Confirmed deaths from the disease stood at 31, with health officials investigating another 14 deaths of people who had been diagnosed with the virus.

Jefferson County remains the state’s hotspot for the illness, with 418 cases. Four people have been confirmed as dying from the disease, with another five cases being investigated.

Chambers, Shelby and Mobile counties still had the most confirmed deaths from COVID-19, with five deaths each. But if the unconfirmed deaths in Jefferson County are, in fact, from COVID-9, that would give the county the most deaths as well as the most cases.
