Incumbent Steve Marshall has raised $629,185 in his bid to win a full term as Alabama’s attorney general, according to his latest financial disclosure report.

Marshall faces two former prosecutors, Troy King and Alice Martin, in the June 5 Republican primary. Birmingham lawyer Chess Bedsole rounds out the field of candidates for the GOP nomination.

King, who was appointed state attorney general in 2004 and defeated by Luther Strange in 2010, has raised $243,181, according to campaign finance reports filed this week with the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office. Martin, a former U.S. attorney in Birmingham and deputy state attorney general, has collected $183,785.

Bedsole, a former criminal court judge who worked on Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, has raised $36,938.

Marshall was appointed attorney general by former Gov. Robert Bentley on Feb. 10, 2017. He succeeded Luther Strange, who was appointed by Bentley to the U.S. Senate when Jeff Sessions became U.S. attorney general.

There are two candidates for the Democratic nomination for attorney general.

Birmingham attorney James S. “Chris” Christie Jr. has raised $42,817 for the campaign, while Joseph Jay Siegelman, a Birmingham attorney and son of former Gov. Don Siegelman, reported $40,197 in contributions.

The party primaries will be June 5. If none of the Republican candidates for attorney general gets a majority of the votes cast there will be a runoff on July 17. The general election is Nov. 6.
