Cavanaugh, Ainsworth Leading Hunt for Funds in GOP Lieutenant Governor Race

Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh outpaced her two rivals for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor in campaign contributions during early May, according to financial reports candidates filed this week.

Cavanaugh, president of the Public Service Commission, raised $76,325 from May 1 to May 11. William Ainsworth reported contributions of $66,272, and Benjamin “Rusty” Glover III listed receipts of $18,393.

The winner of the GOP primary on June 5 will face Democrat Will Boyd in the November general election. Boyd has no opposition for his party’s nomination.

Cavanaugh has raised $1.12 million since kicking off her campaign and has spent $587,263. She listed a cash balance of $601,585.

Ainsworth has raised $1.01 million in cash contributions for the campaign, according to the Secretary of State’s website. He has spent $1.14 million and has a balance of $365,184.

Glover reported total receipts of $161,255, expenditures of $157,871 and a balance of $18,384.
