Marshall Maintains Fundraising Lead in GOP Attorney General Race

Attorney General Steve Marshall has out-raised and out-spent his three rivals so far in May as he seeks the Republican nomination to run for a full term in the office.
Marshall, who was appointed attorney general by former Gov. Robert Bentley last year, faces former Attorney General Troy King, former U.S. Attorney Alice Martin, and lawyer and former Donald Trump campaign activist Chess Bedsole in the June 5 GOP primary.
The winner will face either James S. “Chris” Christie Jr. or Joseph Siegelman, who are seeking the Democratic nomination on June 5. The general election will be Nov. 6.
Marshall collected $37,425 and spent $346,771 from May 1 to May 11, according to a report filed Monday with the Secretary of State’s Office. Overall, his campaign has brought in $1.64 million and spent $1.35 million; his balance is $302,379.
King listed contributions of $25,850 this month and expenditures of $42,662. So far during the campaign, he has raised $1.02 million and spent $739,597, leaving a balance of $284,915.
Martin raised $21,635 in early May, bringing her total for the campaign to $637,841. She has spent $468,793, including $172,412 this month, leaving a balance of $269,047.
Bedsole reported $100 in cash contributions for the period. His campaign has listed overall cash contributions of $247,288, with $709,730 in expenditures and a balance of $438,521. He also has reported making $900,000 in loans to his campaign since last June.
Democrats
Among the Democrats, Christie has collected $28,603 in May and spent $20,916. Overall, his campaign has brought in $180,885 and spent $156,726. His account has a balance of $49,158.
Siegelman brought in $21,730 and spent $8,798 during the reporting period. His total for the campaign stood at $104,026. He has spent $25,543 and has a balance of $78,482.
