Marshall Maintains Big Fundraising Lead Over Siegelman in AG’s Race

Attorney General Steve Marshall maintained his fundraising lead over Democratic opponent Joe Siegelman in August. Attorney General Steve Marshall maintained his fundraising lead over Democratic opponent Joe Siegelman in August.

Marshall, a Republican, raised $133,566, according to his campaign’s monthly disclosure report filed with the Secretary of State’s Office. Siegelman, a Birmingham lawyer and son of former Gov. Don Siegelman, reported raising $94,449.

Marshall reported raising $133,471 in cash and $95 in in-kind contributions. He has raised a total of about $3.4 million to fund his primary race for the office, a primary runoff against former Attorney General Troy King and the general election.

The Marshall campaign has spent $3.3 million for far this election cycle.

Siegelman raised $70,699 in cash and $23,750 in in-kind contributions during August. For the entire 2018 cycle, Siegelman has raised more than $400,000. His campaign has spent $190,000.

Marshall’s major contributors in August included the Automobile Dealers Association of Alabama, which gave $25,000; Care PAC, the political arm of the Alabama Nursing Home Association, which gave $15,000; and Farm PAC and TelPAC, which contributed $10,000 each. Also, among his largest donors was social media giant Facebook, which gave him $6,500 in August.

Siegelman’s largest donors last month included an in-kind contribution of $18,200 from the Naperville, Illinois, firm Charles Colbert Communications Corp. and individual contributions of $5,000 each from Bill Gordon of Montgomery, Dennis and Elizabeth Pantazis of Birmingham, and Roy H. Drinkard of Cullman.
