2018 Election
Miranda Joseph
State Auditor
Miranda Joseph
Party: Democratic
Political experience: Previous runs for state auditor, including in 2014.
Professional experience: Certified internal auditor; has worked in accounting and auditing for 12 years;
Education: Bachelor’s in accounting, University of Alabama at Birmingham; master’s in business administration, University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Main issues: Having a certified auditor fill the position. Joseph told the League of Women Voters that since 2010, more than $7 million worth of items reported as being either lost, stolen or destroyed and no one has been held accountable.
She also said she would appoint fair and honest people serve on the Board of Registrars in counties across the state and update the auditor’s website, which she said hasn’t been updated since 2011, to show money the office has spent and what has been reported as being lost, stolen or destroyed.
On her website, the candidate says, “My goal is to take our family values to Montgomery to ensure that we have an open and honest government. Just as we sit at our kitchen tables to save and watch our pennies, our government should do the same with our tax dollars.”
