Education: Graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law in 1991, the University of Alabama and Pleasant Grove High School.
Political experience: Ganus is now filling a judicial vacancy. Ganus served as a district judge in family court from 2006 until 2013
Civic experience: Served as an assistant district attorney in Tuscaloosa County, dealing with violent crimes against persons: murder, manslaughter, sexual assaults, crimes against children, crimes involving deadly weapons, robbery, burglary, assault and domestic violence with underlying felony; spent a year in private practice in Bessemer, 2015-2016. Served as assistant district attorney in the Bessemer Cutoff, 1993-2006 and 2013-2015.
Issues: Ganus began a first “girls only” docket in the state to bring together troubled female teens with all women facilitators. She began the Bessemer Fatherhood Initiative Program, which has been used as a national model, and started the first Bessemer Teen Court, a diversionary program for first-time offenders with non-life-threatening offenses.
