Railroad Park: Follow the Rules or the Park Will Be Closed

Railroad Park is in danger of being closed by Monday if parkgoers do not follow shelter-in-place rules active for all of Birmingham.
The warning was issued on the park’s Facebook page Wednesday and cited the city of Birmingham’s shelter-in-place order.
Birmingham’s parks are open for individual exercise only. No groups of people within six feet of each other are allowed in the parks, even if they are related or live together. Individuals are not allowed to sit in the park even if they are alone.

Specifically, the rules set out on the park’s Facebook page were:
- Railroad Park is open to those moving in or through it for exercise purposes only.
• No sitting
• No group activity (2 or more people) of any kind inside the park
• No group activity (2 or more people) in or near cars parked around the park’s perimeter
• Remain six feet away from all people at all times while exercising (running, walking), INCLUDING family members and roommates from the same household.
• Birmingham Police & Railroad Park Rangers will be onsite to enforce the rules
If visitors adhere to these rules, Railroad Park will remain open.
If visitors break these rules, Railroad Park may be closed by the City of Birmingham as early as Monday, April 6.
Although the warning of closure was posted on Railroad Parks’ Facebook page, the same rules on activities are in place for all of the parks.
Some other parks already have been closed, including Avondale Park.
Birmingham’s police chief also in a Facebook video earlier this week reminded people to follow the rules set out in the city’s shelter-in-place order or risk being directed to leave.
