Decline Reported Sunday in New COVID-19 Cases in Alabama Result of Data Glitch

The Alabama Department of Public Health’s daily dashboard reported a significant drop Sunday in the number of confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Alabama, but officials said that was because of a computer glitch.
Reports from labs that process the majority of coronavirus tests did not process, the Health Department said on its Twitter feed. The testing numbers reported Monday morning should include the cases and deaths that were not counted over the weekend.
After five days of figures ranging up to 1,129 new cases on Thursday, there were 359 cases reported Sunday for the 24-hour period that ended at 10 a.m. That brought the total number of cases since the pandemic began in mid-March to 34,964, plus 477 cases listed as probably a result of the disease but still being investigated. The death toll for the pandemic remained at 898, plus 21 listed as probably from the disease.
Jefferson County continued to lead the state with 3,682 cases after reporting 79 cases in the new report. Montgomery, which had been the COVID-19 hotspot in the state until eclipsed by Jefferson on Saturday, reported only six cases to raise its total to 3,582. Mobile County had 56 cases for a total of 3,418.
