Moving Average Number of COVID-19 Cases Declines for Sixth Consecutive Day

The moving weekly average number of cases of COVID-19 per day in Alabama dropped for the sixth consecutive day Sunday as the state Department of Public Health reported 722 cases over the past 24 hours.
The agency’s daily Dashboard showed a total of 104,079 cases, plus 4,354 individuals listed as probable victims of the disease, since the pandemic began in mid-March. There were two deaths reported Sunday, raising the overall total to 1,830, with another 68 listed as probable.
The average number of new cases per day for the past week stood at 906. That figure has declined every day since an average of 1,352 on Aug. 10. The highest seven-day moving average was 1,851 cases per day on July 19.
For the first time in several weeks, none of the state’s 67 counties reported case numbers in triple digits on Sunday. Jefferson and Montgomery counties each listed new 83 cases, while Mobile County had 61. Overall, Jefferson County leads the state with 13,988 cases, followed by Mobile County with 11,022 and Montgomery County with 7,152.
