McClusky got 2,727 votes, for 56% of those cast, while Lane received 2,099 votes, for 46%.

McClusky led the voting in a three-way field in the first election, on Aug. 25, but failed to get a majority of the votes cast. Incumbent Mayor Scott McBrayer finished last and was eliminated.

In Fairfield, incumbent Eddie Penny was elected to his first full term as mayor, defeating challenger Michael K. Williams in a runoff.

Penny received 952 votes to 683 for Williams. Penny advanced to the city’s top job in January 2019 after two years as City Council president and four years on the Fairfield city school board. He replaced ousted Mayor Edward May II, who was removed from office by the City Council for missing about three months of council meetings.

Penny, 67, retired from education after having served as a teacher and administrator with Jefferson County. Penny has some

heavy lifting ahead of him, as Fairfield is in bankruptcy. He said his goal is to bring the city out of bankruptcy through economic development.

Center Point elected only its second mayor in the city’s almost-19-year history.

Bobby Scott unseated Tom Henderson in a runoff that pitted the 44-year-old Scott against the 81-year-old Henderson. Scott, who has served one term on the City Council, has said previously that he wants a feasibility study on whether the city should start its own police department or continue its contract arrangement with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

The final tally Tuesday night was 655 votes for Scott and 394 for Henderson.

The mayor-elect said he is not abandoning his present career with the victory, although he said he would have to make photography a part-time activity. Scott said he intends to continue shooting photos of youth sports on weekends and of middle school and high school games.
