First Avenue North at the 35th Street bridge will be closed for about two weeks as city crews repaint the underside of the bridge.
The repainting project will help extend the life of the bridge and maintain the city of Birmingham’s transportation infrastructure, according to a statement from the city.
Detour signs have been put out directing motorists to alternate routes, but traffic delays are expected, according to the statement.
The work also will temporarily change a MAX BRT stop.
The platform on First Avenue North at 34th Street that serves passengers going in the direction of Woodlawn Station will be closed while the work continues. Instead, passengers can use a stop that has been set up about a block away, on 35th Street just beyond the intersection of First Avenue North, before the alley between First and Second Avenues North.
Service headed toward the CrossPlex will not be affected.
