The Birmingham City Council approved the Southern Area Framework Plan on Tuesday.
The Birmingham City Council on Tuesday approved the Southern Area Framework Plan, the last of nine such documents developed under the city’s 2013 Comprehensive Plan. Local leaders say the documents are designed to guide Birmingham’s future growth, investments and neighborhood revitalization, breaking down citywide goals into actionable steps.
“This has involved countless community conversations, meetings with residents, business owners and neighborhood associations to get their input and feedback,” said Councilor Josh Vasa, co-chair of the Planning and Zoning Committee.
“That process has taken years. And today’s vote approved the final framework plan for the entire city. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the collaboration between city planners and residents to get us to this point,”
The Southern Area Framework Plan includes neighborhoods such as Crestwood, Crestline and Red Mountain.
According to the city’s website, the city contracted with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham to develop the 2013 Comprehensive Plan using the Building Communities Program, which uses a combination of funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation and a local match from the city.
Each of the Framework Plans can be found here.
