Journalists working with BirminghamWatch and the Alabama Initiative for Independent Journalism will be guided by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Code of Ethics.

The code declares the following four principles as the foundation of ethical journalism.

Seek truth and report it.
Minimize harm.
Act independently.
Be accountable and transparent.
