Alabama added 555 confirmed cases of COVID-19, along with 14 deaths from the disease, for the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. Wednesday, the state Department of Public Health reported.
There have been 21,626 confirmed cases, plus 363 probable cases, since the coronavirus pandemic began, the department said it is daily update. There have been 739 deaths from COVID-19 in the state, plus five more deaths that possibly resulted from the disease.
The Alabama Department of Public Health’s daily updated showed figures for COVID-19 cases from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The department about a week ago changed the way it reported test results for the coronavirus. Cases and deaths are counted as confirmed when test results have verified to be from the virus. Probable cases are ones in which patients have had contact with someone who has the virus and have symptoms of the disease, but a test hasn’t been run to verify the diagnosis or the test results are not back.
