Alan Summers
Residence: Birmingham
Party: Democrat
Political experience: Elected Family Court judge in 2007; re-elected in 2012. He has no Republican opposition in the general election.
Civic experience: Former attorney who studied business marketing at UAB; earned his law degree from Birmingham School of Law and was admitted to practice in 1997. In private practice from 1997 to 2007; is affiliated with the Alabama Bar Association, Birmingham Bar Association and the Children’s Policy Council.
Issues: Began the Jefferson County Family Drug Court Program in 2010, which has continued to grow and was recently awarded a grant for a clinic for substance using pregnant women; in partnership with YMCA and the Children’s Policy Council developed a therapeutic visitation center in a safe environment; instrumental in developing Voices in Jefferson County, which is a court addressing human sex trafficking in juvenile court.
