Cedar waxwing
Cedar waxwing, feeding on a hardwood berry in Birmingham’s Southside. It is said that flocks of waxwings are visible in the fall as they feed on berries from various hardwood trees, but swarms of them have been visible during the Birmingham spring, flitting and alighting like one big body and stripping cedars and other berry-bearing trees of their fruit. The recent study on North America’s declining bird population lists an increase in the ranks of the waxwing family of birds, and Cornell states that cedar waxwing populations “were stable between 1966 and 2015, and in some areas showed increases, according to the North American Breeding Bird Survey.” (Source: Tom Gordon)
