Here are some things we consider when choosing what to cover for you:

• Does this fall under one of our core coverage areas: government performance and transparency, education, the environment, economic development and opportunity, or health and social equity? We can’t cover everything, and we don’t try. We normally leave breaking news and news outside of Birmingham proper to other outlets.
• Does the story impact everyday Birminghamians and their neighborhoods? We aim to explore and explain why our work matters on the ground.
• Is it newsworthy? If we’ve covered this before, what’s new?
