The number of cases of COVID-19 in Alabama grew by 1,117 cases, but there were no new deaths, the state Department of Public Health reported in Tuesday’s daily update.

The report also showed an increase in the number of people hospitalized with the disease. There were 856 individuals in Alabama hospitals with the coronavirus on Monday, the most since a total of 857 on Sept. 9. Overall, 18,440 people have been hospitalized in the state for treatment of the disease since the pandemic began in March.

There have been 167,193 cases of COVID-19 in Alabama, with 147,083 confirmed cases and 20,110 shown as probable.

The state’s coronavirus death count remained at 2665: 2,509 confirmed and 156 probable.

Jefferson County again led the state, listing 136 new cases. Tuscaloosa County was second with 116 new cases, the most it has reported in more than a month.
