Confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 831 today, up 66 cases from Saturday night and Sunday, the Alabama Public Health Department reported.  Six deaths from the virus have been confirmed by state health officials.

Three of the deaths were in the Tennessee Valley in north Alabama — one each in Jackson, Lauderdale and Madison counties. The other deaths were in Chambers, Mobile and Tallapoosa counties. More deaths have been reported by hospitals, but the state has a process to verify the virus was to blame before including deaths in the official numbers.

The Birmingham area continued to be the hot spot, with 248 cases in Jefferson County and 77 in Shelby County, according to the Health Department. Madison County also reported 79 cases.
