Daily Average Number of COVID-19 Cases Falls to Lowest Level Since Early July
The number of new COVID-19 cases in Alabama rose to 1,161 in Saturday’s count, but the daily average for the past week fell to its lowest point since July 2.
The Alabama Department of Public Health’s dashboard showed a total of 103,357 cases since the pandemic began in mid-March. The update for the past 24 hours listed three deaths, bringing the overall total to 1,828. An additional 4,113 cases and 68 deaths were listed as probably related to the disease.
For the past week, the state has averaged 963 new cases a day, marking the first time the seven-day average has dropped below 1,000 since July 2. There were four consecutive days this week when the count was below 1,000, including 700 on Friday.
The highest daily average over a seven-day period was 1,851 on July 19; one week ago, on Saturday, Aug. 8, the average was 1,405.
The dashboard showed 832,794 individuals have been tested in the state. Based on those figures, 12.4% of those tested were positive for COVID-19, and 1.7% of those who tested positive have died.
Jefferson County led the state with 223 new cases, raising its total to 13,905. Mobile County reported 125 cases for a total of 10,961.
