Deputy Sheriff Charged in On-Duty Shooting
Thomas Cleveland, a deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, was indicted this week for assault in relation to an on-duty shooting April 20.
According to a statement from the Jefferson County district attorney’s office, the State Bureau of Investigation investigated the case and submitted its findings to the DA’s office, which presented the case to the grand jury.
The incident took place on Interstate 59/20 near Arkadelphia Road and on Arkadelphia Road. Officials at the time said the wounded person did not have life-threatening injuries.
Cleveland was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Thursday and released on a $30,000 bond the same day.
