The downtown COVID-19 testing site has changed its hours and will now be open 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. seven days a week.
Patients must call 205-975-1881 before going for a test and speak with a provider, who will determine whether they should be tested. The call center hours now are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day, according to a statement from UAB.
Hold times may be long when many people are calling.
The testing site is on the UAB campus and sponsored by area hospitals and the Jefferson County Department of Health. UAB recently got a $200,000 grant from Hyundai Hope On Wheels and Hyundai Motor America to support the test site, according to a statement Friday from UAB.
Since the testing site was opened March 23, there have been 6,419 calls to the call center. Of those, 3,012 tests were ordered, and results have been returned on 1,409 of the tests. Ninety-seven of those tests have been positive.
