Political experience: President, Maple Grove neighborhood association, 2000-2002. Ran unsuccessfully in the special election for Alabama House District 58, 2017; for Birmingham Board of Education District 4, 2013; for Jefferson County Commission District 1, 2010; for Birmingham City Council, 2009 and 1998; and the state Senate, 2006.

Professional experience: Retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections after 27 years of service, including as warden at the Childersburg Community Work Center and working at St. Clair Correctional Facility.

Educational experience: Master’s in management, bachelor’s in human resources, Faulkner University; associate’s degree in criminal justice, Jefferson State Community College; Woodlawn High School.

Main issues: Fully supporting the Birmingham City School system and striving for continuous improvement in that system. Communicate with the community. Do a SWOT analysis on strengths, weaknesses. opportunities and threats for this school year and the next. “Birmingham City Schools are not performing to their full potential. I know they can improve, and they have improved in areas where they have been pushed such as the 3rd grade reading initiative. I believe I can help instill an attitude of continuous improvement,” Huntley says on his Facebook page.
