Professional experience: Attorney for 18 years; in law enforcement for eight years; appointed to sit as a Special District Court Judge in the 10th Judicial Circuit; serves as deputy district attorney to Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr for five years; from 2013-2016, he was the first African American assistant district attorney in Walker County; member of the Alabama State Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association.
Civic experience: Served in the Alabama Air National Guard; member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; graduate of the National Criminal Defense College and earned his certification as Fire Investigator from the Alabama Fire College; a minister for almost 20 years, he pastors Lee Chapel AME Church.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Stillman College, 1999, while working as a Birmingham police officer; attended Birmingham School of Law as a recipient of the Law Enforcement Scholarship and graduated in 2002.
Main issues: He says his broad range of experience within the criminal justice system helped him to develop a patient and compassionate approach to working with people from all walks of life.
