Civic experience: Deputy registrar and helped register more than10,000 new voters; secretary of the Jefferson County Citizens’ Coalition; graduate of Leadership Birmingham; member, the YMBC Civic Club; member, Downtown Democrats Club; member, the Committee to Save Jefferson County; appointed to the board of directors of Alamerica Bank in 2016.
Education: Graduate, the University of Alabama-Birmingham; attended Miles Law School.
Main issues: Voter registration will be among Anderson-Smith’s top priorities, if elected.
“One of the critical roles of the clerk’s office is the oversight of voter registration and voter education,” she said. “I will work to elevate this platform through creation of new programs that touch communities at the grassroots level.”
Anderson-Smith also hopes to create a more user-friendly communication system in the office.
“I will work in the clerk’s office to streamline communications and filings between the court system, attorneys and the public by enhanced technological capabilities.
Anderson-Smith added that she would, “work to improve the cooperation between the clerk, sheriff’s office and constables.”
