Political experience: District 1 commissioner, 2017-present (appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey to fill vacant seat); Shelby County Board of Education, 2015-2017.
Professional experience: Senior vice president/chief retail officer, America’s First Federal Credit Union, Birmingham; financial services professional since 1993.
Civic experience: Youth Leadership Shelby County, 2007-present; Board of Directors, Shelby County Chamber of Commerce; member, South Shelby County Chamber of Commerce; board member, Law Enforcement Personnel Board of Shelby County; member, Shelby Arts Council.
Education: Degree in business administration with concentration in finance, Auburn University.
Main issues: Miller is concerned about the proposed toll bridge over the Coosa River between Shelby and Talladega counties, but he has yet to take a position on whether the commission should approve the bridge. On his campaign Facebook page, he posted, “I think about this bridge all the time right now. As your current Commissioner, I have pledged to be the voice of the district. To be that voice, I must listen to opinions from both sides of the fence. I have attended meetings, taken phone calls daily, and responded to countless emails from both sides all in an effort to gain facts. I plan to do this until the County makes its decision.”
