Samford University has developed a website that provides information about the coronavirus pandemic as it spreads across Alabama.

Created by Samford’s Department of Geography and Sociology, the pandemic data dashboard — Coronavirus COVID-19 in Alabama — is available for use by the public and will be used academically as the university moves from classroom to online courses.

The site features information, updated several times a day, on the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Alabama, nationally and globally. It also has a map showing the geographic distribution of cases, and users can click on any of Alabama’s 67 counties for information about the number of cases there.

Geography professor Jonathan Fleming created the geographic information systems project, the university said in a press release. Fleming draws data from sources including Johns Hopkins University, the Alabama Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control’s Social Vulnerability index (SVI).
