A town hall on public safety will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Huffman Road.

Jefferson County Commissioner Lashunda Scales is sponsoring the meeting for her District 1 residents in response to the rise in shootings and murders. She said in a statement that many residents are frightened and feel “caged” in their homes.

“With the level of gun violence and frequent shootings involving children and senior citizens in our communities, it is my duty as a county official to make available every possible resource to address the fears of all stakeholders in Jefferson County,” she said in the statement.

Featured speakers include the legislator who heads the public safety and Homeland Security committee, law enforcement officials including the sheriff, a judge and the district attorney and emergency response officials. Doors of the church will open for the event an hour early, at 5 p.m.

District 1 include parts of Center Point, Adamsville, Birmingham and unincorporated Jefferson County, as well as all of Fairfield, Midfield, Forestdale, Docena, Dolomite and Hooper City.
