Spread of COVID-19 in Alabama Continues Saturday at a Record Pace
The spread of COVID-19 cases in Alabama continued to accelerate Saturday, with state health officials reporting a third day of record numbers.
In its daily update, the Alabama Department of Public Health said there were 888 new confirmed cases of the disease across the state, bringing the total to 24,221 since the pandemic began. The department had reported 859 new cases on Friday and 848 on Thursday, both records at the time.
The new report, covering the period of 10 a.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday, included four new deaths, bringing the statewide overall total to 768.
In addition to the confirmed cases, the report listed 380 probable cases and five probable deaths. Those numbers reflect patients whose illnesses or deaths are believed to be from COVID-19 but confirmation is pending.
All 67 counties have reported confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and 61 counties reported new cases in Saturday’s report.
Montgomery County was the only one to report numbers in triple digits, with 101 new cases to bring its total to 2,644. Its death count remained at 68.
Tuscaloosa County was second in growth, reporting 83 new cases and one death. The county’s totals are now 1,239 cases and 26 deaths.
Jefferson County listed 71 new cases for a total of 2,410, and its number of deaths remained at 117.
Among other counties, Franklin reported 44 new cases, for a total of 709; Marshall had 38 and a total of 849; Mobile, 37, for 2,660; and Morgan, 37, for 553. Mobile reported no new deaths but continues to lead the state with a total of 129.
