2018 Elections
Stephen Bryant
Office: Alabama House District 73
Party: Republican
Age:47
Residence: Pelham
Political experience: Ran for Alabama House of Representative, District 41, 2010.
Professional experience: Equipment operator at Argos U.S.A. in Calera, 2006-2018.
Education: Pelham High School graduate, 1990; associate degree, AutoCAD-Computer Aided Drafting, Mt. Clemins Technical College, Mt. Clemins, Mich.
Main issues: Among Bryant’s top priorities is updating the state code.“I believe that Alabama needs to update and rewrite the 1975 Code of Alabama to a 2020 standard,” he said. “Even today, the Code states that a lottery ticket in your possession is a misdemeanor and gives the authorities the right to confiscate your vehicle.”
He also advocates changes in education policy and in the state retirement system, as well as tax incentives for small business start-ups.
“I would like to see our school systems adopt standards and practices that teach not only the dangers of texting and driving but also to include the proper use of social media and online Internet use,” he said. “I would like to help the firefighters of our State be allowed to go from the tier two to a tier one retirement system allowing them to fully retire in 25 years instead of 35. I would also like to initiate an Alabama State tax-free initiative for new small businesses for a period of one year to help get them through the hurdle of the initial year of business ownership.”
