Following a ruling striking down the county’s 2021 County Commission district map, lawyers explained next steps and warned that appeals could delay reform ahead of the 2026 election.
The county argued that it’s too late in the political cycle to change the district maps now, and doing so could block some potential candidates from running for the commission.
The County Commission also passed a new zoning ordinance that adds housing types and encourages redevelopment to limit suburban sprawl.
The new plan is to be considered in Thursday’s meeting.
