Warming Station Open Thru Tuesday Morning

The warming station at Jimmie Hale Mission will remain open through Tuesday morning as temperatures in the Birmingham area continue to plummet in the overnight hours.

The station, cosponsored with the city of Birmingham, provides shelter for those who have insufficient heat in their homes and for those without homes from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Men, women and children are welcome, according to a release from Jimmie Hale.

Food will be provided to those in the warming station.

The station is at the mission, at 3420 Second Ave. N. A shuttle will run from Linn Park’s main entrance, at Park Place and 20th Street N., to the shelter between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a return the following morning.

Jimmie Hale accepts contributions to cover staffing, meals and cleaning products at the warming station. It also requests donations of twin-sized washable blankets, fresh fruit, paper plates and utensils, and soft breakfast bars and snacks.

Contributions can be made at jimmiehalemission.com/donate or donations dropped off at the mission. The station has been open since Friday.
