Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin acknowledged Thursday that he will be running for a second term during the municipal elections in August.

His official announcement is set for Saturday. Woodfin already has been raising money for his campaign.

The election will be held Aug. 24. The earliest date to file papers qualifying for the election is June 25, and the deadline is July 10.

Two candidates have publicly announced their plans to challenge Woodfin: former Auburn University football player and businessman Chris Woods and Jefferson County Commissioner Lashunda Scales.
