Residence: Black Warrior River

Political experience: Served for eight years on the Birmingham City Council, where he worked to abolish the city occupational tax; served on the Jefferson County Republican Steering Committee for several years and is a former state chairman for the Libertarian Party of Alabama.

Professional experience: Retired. Former medical director of BREMSS, Birmingham Regional Emergency Medical Service System. He has been an emergency room physician at Shelby Medical Center, Centerville, Fayette County and other rural emergency rooms. He also founded and worked as a family physician at Hoover Family Medicine before retiring from his practice. Served in the U.S. Air Force as a captain and flight surgeon stationed in the United Kingdom. Also deployed with his fighter squadron to Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey, and with his Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron to Iceland.

Education: Bachelor’s degree, Auburn University; earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham under a scholarship from the U.S. Air Force.

Main issues: Protecting the Black Warrior River. He wants to make cities that allow their storm sewage to drain into the river clean up the garbage before it flows downstream. Protect property rights. Believes the only legitimate purpose of government is to protect citizens’ pursuit of life, liberty and property. Hold officials accountable. Fight inflation. Clean up Alabama prisons and treat prisoners humanely. Freeze state hiring for everything but prisons and public safety; support school voucher programs.
