More than 50 candidates are on the Aug. 26 ballot to run for mayor, City Council and the Board of Education.

Aug. 11 is the deadline to register to vote in the election. If you have not registered to vote in the state, go to the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office to file the application electronically or download the application and return it to the county’s Board of Registrars at the downtown courthouse – at 716 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. N, Ste A-410, Birmingham, Alabama 35203-0115. Or you can register in person at either county courthouse and in area libraries.
