The Jefferson County Commission approved a 2026 operating and capital budget of $997,488,475 during its meeting Thursday.

That total includes $282.7 million in the general fund and $700,000 of discretionary funds for each of the five commissioners.

The budget was passed with no discussion, but commissioners reviewed it during their committee meeting Tuesday. At that time, commissioners applauded their efforts to fund multiple projects, such as road work and building a new juvenile detention center, without having to borrow money.
