Warming Stations Open Ahead of Freeze Warning for Birmingham Area

With temperatures again headed to the freezing point Tuesday night, the city of Birmingham and Jimmie Hale Mission will open its nightly warming station at 6 p.m. for people who have no shelter or insufficient heat in their homes.

The shelter, at 3420 2nd Ave. N., will remain open until temperatures rise Tuesday morning.

Free shuttle service to Jimmie Hale will be available from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with pickup at the main entrance of Linn Park, at Park Place and 20th Street North. Food will be provided for those who stay at the shelter.

Pathways provides shelter for women and children at its facility at 409 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd.

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for tonight, before temperatures rise to about 60 degrees on Wednesday.
