Age: 51

Political experience: Ran unsuccessfully for the Alabama House of Representatives, 2022.

Main Issues: Keep funding in public schools — work for smaller class sizes and safer campuses and expand afterschool and career-tech programs. Support funding for local community clinics, mobile health units and expanded mental-health services, along with better reimbursement for EMTs and nurses and better state reimbursement for hospitals and emergency systems. Support policies to train workers in high-demand trades, expand apprenticeships through Alabama Works, and make it easier for small businesses to access state micro-grants and startup help. Bring to Birmingham its fair share of state transportation and infrastructure dollars back home to pay for resurfacing roads, repairing bridges and fixing drainage and flooding issues. Hold industrial polluters accountable and make sure environmental cleanup funding reaches local neighborhoods. Work to increase funding for training and equipment for first responders and strengthen collaboration between local agencies and Alabama EMA. Support youth programs, re-entry assistance and mental-health crisis response to stop problems before they become emergencies.
