City of Birmingham

  • Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, May 11, 2 p.m. | Agenda
    • Item 3 – Review of a grant application for improvements along 19th Street, Ensley (see Item 4 on the Budget and Finance committee agenda)
    • Item 5 – Review of the REDESIGN Alabama Program (possibly related to Item 6 on the Birmingham City Council agenda and Item 18 on the Budget and Finance Committee agenda).
  • Budget and Finance Committee, May 11, 3:30 p.m. | Agenda
    • Item 4 – This item explains the grant application for the proposed scope of work along 19th Street, Ensley. It suggests the project would run the length of the road, from the former Ensley Works to Bush Boulevard. It also suggests an 80/20 split with the Alabama Department of Transportation. The work has been revised to include preliminary engineering and construction.
    • Item 18 – This item explains changes to the REDESIGN Alabama project previously approved in April 2024, outlining changes to the terms of the agreement.
  • Birmingham City Council, May 12, 9:30 a.m. | Agenda
    • Item 6 – This will ratify an agreement between the City of Birmingham, the City of Trussville and Norfolk Southern Railway to undertake a project to close at-grade railroad crossings.
    • RE: Item 31 – The Council has the amended Kelvyn Decker Ordinance on the agenda (as of Friday) for recall. It waived the second reading of the changes during last week’s public hearing and subsequently passed it unanimously. This means it did not require a second reading per the Mayor-Council Act. This is why most local media outlets correctly reported the ordinance being approved.
  • Public Safety Committee, May 12, 1 p.m. | Agenda
    • Item 7 – This ordinance, submitted by the Chief of Police, would “establish public safety regulations for convenience stores to deter criminal activity, improve evidence collection, provide first responders with critical situational awareness during active incidents, and protect the public health, safety, and welfare.”
  • Planning and Zoning Committee, May 12, 3 p.m. | More info

Other City of Birmingham

  • Birmingham Public Library Board, May 12, 5 p.m. | 2026 Board meeting dates
    • Scheduled for the North Birmingham Regional Branch Library
