City of Birmingham
- Community Development Committee, Aug. 3, 3:30 p.m. | Agenda
- Item 1 – This brings the proposed redevelopment of the former Hill School as an affordable housing project reviewed by the Council’s Budget and Finance Committee last week. It would provide a payment of up to $633,393 in addition to $495,000 in HOME Program funds to support the project.
- Item 2 – This allows for a new blade sign for a tattoo parlor on 219 20th St. N. by way of a right-of-way encroachment license.
- Item 3 – This allows for a new flag sign for a new bar and lounge at 2012 First Ave. N. by way of a right-of-way encroachment license
- Item 4 – This is a recommendation for a board appointment to the Birmingham Land Bank Authority
- Birmingham City Council, Aug. 4, 9:30 a.m. | Agenda
- Item 1 – This is the public hearing to amend zoning maps in the Pratt and Ensley communities as called for in the Pratt Ensley Framework Plan. It is the first hearing for the plan. Note: We covered one of the first public meetings for this plan back in Feb. 2025.
- Item 2 – This returns the resolution consenting to the city’s Industrial Development Board issuing up to $10,000,000 of its industrial revenue bonds for the purpose of financing the acquisition, construction, improvement, equipping, and installation by Culton Holdings, LLC, of a manufacturing and warehousing facility located at 1811 Woodlands Industrial Dr. It was held over from last week’s agenda.
- Item 66 – This declares the 85th annual Magic City Classic, scheduled for Oct. 31, 2026, as serving “a public purpose that promotes economic development and tourism,” and authorizes the Mayor to expend up to $2 million. It’s been submitted by the Council President and President Pro Tempore.
- Item 81 – This sets a public hearing to consider changes to the city ordinance relating to the floodplain zoning overlay.
