Alabama COVID-19 Case Count Up Another 424; 26 More Die
Alabama has 424 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one more probable case reported.
Between 10 a.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday, 26 more people died from the disease. Probable deaths remained at four.
In all, 714 people have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March. The state has had a total of 20,590 confirmed cases of the disease and 424 probable cases.
The Alabama Department of Public Health about a week ago changed the way it reported test results for the coronavirus. Cases and deaths are counted as confirmed when test results have verified the virus. Probable cases are ones in which patients have had contact with someone who has the virus and have symptoms of the disease, but a test hasn’t been run to verify the diagnosis or the test results are not back.
During that 24-hour period, Montgomery County had the most new cases of COVID-19 compared to the other counties. It had 74 new cases diagnosed, bringing its total to 2,128. It also added six deaths for the county, bringing its total death toll to 54.
Jefferson County followed with 29 new cases, for a total of 2,078. Three more people also died in the county, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 109.
Mobile County added 28 cases, for a total of 2,461. Deaths remained stable at 124.
Tuscaloosa County’s case and death counts also were up. It reported 21 new cases of COVID-19, bringing its total to 936, and five new deaths, bringing that total to 23.
Other counties with significant increases in cases included Dallas, 19, for a total of 339; Morgan, 17, for a total of 395; and Elmore, 16, for a total of 427.
