Will Ainsworth and Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh

Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh has far outpaced opponent Will Ainsworth in fundraising for the Republican runoff for lieutenant governor so far this month, according to reports filed Monday with the Secretary of State’s Office.

Cavanaugh, president of the Alabama Public Commission, reported raising $238,180 in itemized contributions for the period of June 1 to June 22. That brought her total for the campaign to $1.63 million. She has spent $1.41 million during the campaign, including $181,836 this month, and reported a balance of $221,782.

Her biggest contributor has been Progress PAC of Montgomery – funded mostly by businesses including Blue Cross Blue Shield, McWane Inc. and Michelin North America – with $120,000. Drummond Co. Inc. of Birmingham has contributed $29,500 to the campaign.

In addition, Cavanaugh and her husband have loaned $500,000 to her campaign since it began last year.

Ainsworth, a state representative from Guntersville, raised $24,650 during the current reporting period, bringing his total for the campaign to $1.09 million. He has spent $1.66 million, including $265,430 in June, and has a cash balance of $429,412.

Ainsworth has loaned $1 million to his campaign so far, including $500,000 on June 7 and $500,000 on Aug. 31, 2017.

Cavanaugh also led in votes in the June 5 primary. She had 238,333 votes to Ainsworth’s 204,465, with Rusty Glover coming in a distant third with 107,981 votes.
