Garbage Pick-up Changes for the Holidays
Donate today to help Birmingham stay informed.
Birmingham is changing the dates for household garbage pickup in the next two weeks to allow for the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, and it will be notifying residents of new routes and days for household garbage pickup being put in place as of Jan. 6.
Temporary collection dates announced by the city are:
Monday, Dec. 23: Regular routes will be picked up as usual
Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25: No garbage collection.
Thursday, Dec. 26: Regular Tuesday and Wednesday routes will be collected.
Friday, Dec. 27: Regular Thursday routes will be collected
Saturday, Dec. 28: Regular Friday routes will be collected
Wednesday, Jan. 1: No recycling will be collected.
In more permanent changes, the city will start a new schedule for household garbage pickup as of Jan. 6, according to an announcement from the city. Letters will be sent to residents detailing the new schedule before that time.
Each neighborhood will have garbage pick-up just one day a week, and recycling will be collected the same day but every other week.
Bulk trash and brush will be picked up once every other week.
If you haven’t signed up for the recycling program, you can do housing this form provided by the city.
