Political experience: First elected to Alabama State Board of Education in 2019 and reelected since then. Served as 2015 state Board of Education president pro-tem and 2016 vice president of the board.

Professional experience: Dean of general education/associate professor at Miles College, member of the Alabama Two Year College Board of Trustees; has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, director of curriculum and superintendent in the Fairfield and the Russell County school systems; previously an associate dean at Virginia College.

Education: Doctorate in education, University of Alabama; education specialist degree, Samford University; master’s degree, Samford University; bachelor’s degree, Miles College.

Civic experience: Member, Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Fairfield. Current or former member, Fairfield Civitans; member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Magic City Chapter Links Inc., Council for Leaders of Alabama Schools, Alabama Association of School Boards, National Education Association.
